The present golf course was envisaged by Mr Barry Peacey in 1969, to be located on the eastern slopes of Robinswood Hill. At that time, an area of some 250 acres was defined and Mr John Day, a golf course architect from Kent, was tasked with providing proposals for an 18-hole golf course. The final layout of the course was very similar to that in use today. Detailed planning permission was granted in 1970.
Development continued until 1975 when Mr Peacey decided to sell. The complex was purchased by Mr G Lewis who continued development of the leisure amenities to the level which exists today. The course opened for play in 1976.
Subsequent to the ownership of Mr Lewis, the property past through the hands of Embassy Hotels, then Jarvis Hotels Ltd. In 2010 the club was purchased by Coleman & Basinghall Limited
Development of the course continued, the most recent being in 2006 with the extension of the 13th and 14th holes into par 5s and the lengthening of the course to 5,985 meters.
The course provides spectacular views of Gloucester and the surrounding countryside as it winds its way around the slopes of Robinswood Hill. From a golfers point of view, it is challenging and provides a good test of golfing skills.
